Operation Encompass

As a school we support Operation Encompass, a project that runs jointly between schools and Devon and Cornwall Police

Operation Encompass is an information-sharing system between police and schools which enables the provision of timely care and support for the innocent and often silent victims of domestic abuse - the children. If a domestic incident occurs in the household of one of our families on the previous evening and one of our children is in that house, then the police will contact the nominated Key Adults (Mrs Giblett, Mrs Power and Mr Galler) at Archbishop Benson School prior to the start of the next school day. This means that appropriate support, e.g. food, rest, comfort, can then be available for that child. This support can be overt or silent dependent upon the circumstances.

Our Key Adults are trained to allow them to liaise with the police and to use the information that has been shared, in confidence, while ensuring that the school is able to make provision, short-term and longer term, for possible difficulties experienced by children, or their families, who have been involved in, or exposed to, a domestic abuse incident.

Our offer of support is confidential and non-judgemental. All we want to do is to offer the best support possible to all our pupils, and families, and we believe our commitment to Operation Encompass will be extremely beneficial for all those involved.
