Vision for Computing at Archbishop Benson C of E School

Through our computing curriculum at Archbishop Benson we aim to give our pupils the life-skills that will enable them to embrace new technology in a socially responsible and safe way. We want children to become autonomous, independent users of computing technologies, gaining confidence and enjoyment from a wide range of activities. We want the use of technology to support learning across the entire curriculum and to ensure that our curriculum is accessible to every child. Not only do we want them to be digitally literate and competent end-users of technology but we also want them to develop creativity, resilience, problem-solving and critical thinking skills. We want our pupils to learn how to communicate as members of a wider global community and as responsible digital citizens. Children will recognise that there are exciting career opportunities to be had in computing technologies. It is our intention to develop every child’s computing abilities and technical knowledge so that they leave primary school equipped with 21st century skills and a strong moral compass. We strive to teach Computing in a way that reflects our shared purpose and Christian ethos, as well as encompassing our school values of Respect, Creation, Fellowship, Wisdom and Hope.
Our aim is that all our pupils will become:
Competent Coders
They will be competent in coding for a variety of practical and inventive purposes, including the application of ideas within other subjects.
Responsible Digital Citizens
They will connect with others safely and respectfully, understanding the need to act within the law and use their moral compass!
Creative Communicators
They will communicate their ideas creatively using a wide range of devices and understand the connected nature of devices online.
Reliable Data Handlers
They will collect, organise, manipulate and interpret data.
